What is night supervision?

Night supervision is a waiver service where a direct support professional stays in a person’s home overnight to provide help and supervision when it’s needed. It’s designed for people who have an assessed need for support during the night, not just someone on standby.

How our staff can help overnight

  • Help with daily living activities during the night, such as getting to the bathroom or getting back to bed
  • Following the person’s positive support or transition plan
  • Reinforcing skills the person is working on
  • Responding when the person wakes and needs assistance
  • Communicating with family members and the case manager about how nights are going

Who it’s for

  • Adults on the CADI Waiver (the service is also available under the BI, CAC, and DD waivers)
  • Who live in their own home
  • Who have an assessed need for help during the night in at least one area of their support plan
Good to know: Under DHS rules, night supervision can’t be used only as general “just in case” safety coverage, or for someone who sleeps through the night or wakes without needing help. Your case manager will confirm whether it fits your needs.
